Election Statement
I respect what the CSA board has accomplished so far with limited resources. As a board member, I have two primary goals: 1) to support the activities that CSA currently organizes, and 2) to make CSA a more functional and vibrant organization. These goals will be best achieved by further cultivating the relationships within CSA members, communication and collaboration with scholars from China and other U.S. regions, and outreach to local Chinese communities.
Today, the CSA board faces unique challenges and opportunities. To serve CSA members, the board needs to listen carefully so that it can reflect the will of the community. To foster the exchange of ideas with scholars on an international level, the board needs to be open-minded and utilize the unique opportunities associated with Southern California as a cultural center and a door way connecting America and China. In order to serve local California Chinese communities, the board needs to reach out to them and to develop equal partnership.
I have extensive experience working with Chinese students, scholars, and community leaders. I served for two years (2001 and 2002) as the board member and Director-Service Programs of the Chinese Students and Scholar Association (CSSA) at UCLA. As a service program director, I organized immigration workshops and quarterly dancing parties. I also assisted other board members to successfully hold two large-scale events to celebrate Chinese New Year with nearly 500 attendants each year. For the past two years, I have been working closely with local Chinese communities in the flight against cancer. With my experience serving communities that I belong to, I believe that I understand the unique challenges that the CSA board is facing and would bring a valuable perspective to the board.
